Description: While the first "Superman" serial had several good bound-and-gagged scenes with Neill, this one falls sadly short. Only once in the serial is Neill shown fully bound and gagged.

And her first and last tieups appear to be only implied. Towards the end of Chapter 4, "Superman Meets Atom Man!" she's shown sitting in a chair ungagged with her arms pulled back as if her hands are tied behind her. When she's lifted from the chair after being rendered unconscious (why did this happen to Lois Lane so often in the serials?) it appears she drops a rope from her hand as she's carried off.

Then, in a sequence that bridges Chapters 5 and 6, "Atom Man Tricks Superman" and "Atom Man's Challenge," Lois is grabbed on the street and bundled into a car by two of Atom Man's henchmen. A moment later she's shown sitting in the back seat next to one of the baddies who goes through the motions of tying her hands behind her before loosely wrap-gagging her with a bandanna. The thugs stop at a barn where they escort Lois in (although her hands are visible, it isn't clear if her wrists are really tied or if she's merely holding her hands together) and stand her next to a post to which they lash her with a rope around her upper arms. They retreat from the barn and hide as Jimmy Olsen, who saw them grab Lois and followed in another car, pulls into the barn and jumps out to rescue her. Before he can free her, they jump him and one of them knocks him out, leaving him sprawled next to Lois as they close and padlock the barn doors-with Jimmy's car still running inside. There are a few nice full-figure shots of Lois writhing and struggling before the fumes from the car render her unconscious (once again!).

Needless to say, Superman passes overhead, spots her with his x-ray vision, and bursts through the barn door to untie her and carry her and Jimmy to safety in the nick of time.

In the final chapter, "Superman Saves the Universe," Lois once again is taken captive and is shown in several shots sitting with her hands behind her as if they're tied. This time she's also shown standing while being flown away in a rocketship and then being carried back to earth by Superman, all the while with her hands still behind her. Superman does pull a rope from behind her after safely returning her to the Daily Planet, but this may have been a bit of sleight of hand on Kirk Alyn's part.
